Natural Habitat
Indoor environments, primarily hiding in cracks, crevices, mattress seams, bed frames, and upholstered furniture close to human sleeping areas.
Diet & Feeding
Obligate hematophagy; they feed exclusively on the blood of warm-blooded animals, primarily humans, though they may bite pets.
Behavior Patterns
Nocturnal and elusive; they emerge from hiding at night to feed. They undergo five nymphal stages (instars) before reaching adulthood, requiring a blood meal to molt between each stage.
Risks & Benefits
Risks include itchy skin welts, allergic reactions, insomnia, and psychological distress. While not known to transmit diseases to humans, they are a significant sanitary pest and difficult to eradicate. They offer no ecological benefits in a domestic setting.
