Natural Habitat
Found in bird nests (sparrows, pigeons, starlings), chicken coops, and occasionally invading homes through windows or vents from nearby empty nests.
Diet & Feeding
Hematophagous (blood-feeders); they primarily feed on the blood of birds, but will bite humans if their bird hosts leave the nest.
Behavior Patterns
They are highly active crawlers. While they cannot fly or jump, they can move quickly over surfaces. They are most active at night and tend to aggregate in cracks and crevices near their food source.
Risks & Benefits
Risks include intense itching, skin irritation, and dermatitis in humans. They do not live or reproduce on humans but can cause significant discomfort. They offer no ecological benefits to humans.
