Case-bearing Clothes Moth Larva
Scientific Name: Tinea pellionella
Order & Family: Order: Lepidoptera, Family: Tineidae
Size: Larvae are typically 6–10 mm (about 1/4 to 3/8 inch) long.

Natural Habitat
Typically found indoors in dark, quiet areas like closets, underneath carpets, behind baseboards, and in stored clothing or fabrics. Also found in bird nests.
Diet & Feeding
Keratin-based materials such as wool, silk, fur, feathers, hair, lint, and sometimes stored grains.
Behavior Patterns
The most distinguishing behavior is that the larva carries a portable, silken case around its body for protection, which it camouflages with debris, fibers, and sand from its environment. It drags this case along as it moves and can turn around inside it to feed from either end.
Risks & Benefits
Risks: Considered a household pest because the larvae damage natural fibers in clothing (wool sweaters), carpets (eating large patches), and upholstery. Benefits: In nature, they help break down keratinous waste like animal hair and feathers.
