Clover Mite

Natural Habitat

Found on lawns with lush greenery, around building foundations, and frequently entering homes through windows during spring and fall.

Diet & Feeding

Herbivorous; they feed on more than 200 species of plants, including grass, clover, and various ornamental flowers by sucking plant juices.

Behavior Patterns

They are most active during cool weather in spring and autumn. They reproduce by parthenogenesis (females can lay viable eggs without mating). They often congregate in large numbers on sunny walls.

Risks & Benefits

They do not bite humans or pets and do not transmit disease. They are considered a nuisance pest because they can leave a reddish stain if crushed on fabrics or walls. They are part of the local ecosystem as a food source for other predatory mites.
