Natural Habitat

Indoor environments, specifically in floor cracks, behind baseboards, under carpets, and in closets.

Diet & Feeding

Scavengers that feed on natural animal fibers like wool, silk, fur, feathers, and dry skin, as well as dead insects and some dried foods.

Behavior Patterns

Larvae are slow-moving and avoid light; they go through 6 to 12 instars (molting stages) which leaves behind 'shell' casings that are often the first sign of infestation.

Risks & Benefits

They do not bite humans but can cause property damage to clothing and upholstery; their hairs can cause allergic reactions ('creeping eruption') or skin irritation in some people.
