Behavior Patterns

They are wingless, soft-bodied insects that prefer dark, moist environments. They are active year-round indoors and exhibit a jerky, rapid running movement when disturbed.

Risks & Benefits

They do not bite humans or pets and do not spread disease, but in large numbers, they can contaminate food pantry items or damage delicate paper goods and old book bindings. They are primarily a nuisance indicator of high humidity levels.
