Natural Habitat
Primarily indoors within human dwellings, hiding in mattress seams, bed frames, and cracks near sleeping areas.
Diet & Feeding
Hematophagous (blood-feeding); primarily feeds on human blood at night.
Behavior Patterns
Nocturnal and elusive; they hide during the day and are attracted to heat and carbon dioxide emitted by hosts. They undergo incomplete metamorphosis (egg, nymph, adult).
Risks & Benefits
While not known to transmit diseases, they cause itchy red welts, allergic reactions, and significant psychological distress; they are considered a major domestic pest.
