Adult females migrate to the perianal area at night to lay eggs. Eggs become infectious within hours and are spread via the fecal-oral route.

Causes enterobiasis, characterized by intense itching (pruritus ani). It is highly contagious but generally more of a nuisance than a severe medical risk.
