Diet & Feeding
Adults feed on pollen and nectar. Larvae feed on natural fibers, dried animal products, wool, silk, feathers, and dead insects.
Behavior Patterns
Adults are attracted to light and often found near windows. They undergo complete metamorphosis; the larval stage is the most destructive and can last for several months.
Risks & Benefits
They do not bite humans, but the larval hairs can cause allergic reactions (dermatitis) in sensitive individuals. They are significant pests that cause damage to clothing, upholstery, and carpets.
