Silverfish

Damp, cool places such as basements, bathrooms, kitchens, and laundry rooms; often found in cabinets, under sinks, and behind baseboards.

Starches and polysaccharides, including book bindings, wallpaper paste, glue, paper, photographs, linen, silk, and sugary food debris.

Nocturnal and move with a characteristic fish-like swimming motion; they avoid light and can live for several years. They undergo ametabolous metamorphosis (no major changes from larva to adult).

They do not bite humans or transmit diseases but are considered household pests because they damage property like books, clothing, and stored food. They serve an ecosystem role as decomposers in nature.
