Violet Carpenter Bee

Natural Habitat

Open sunny gardens, parks, and woodlands; widely distributed across Europe, Asia, and northern Africa.

Diet & Feeding

Nectar and pollen from a wide variety of flowers, making them generalist foragers.

Behavior Patterns

Solitary nesters that burrow into dead wood or wooden structures to create galleries for their larvae. They are active during the day and are often one of the first bee species to emerge in early spring.

Risks & Benefits

They are excellent pollinators for many plant species. While they can sting if handled or threatened, they are generally non-aggressive. They can cause minor structural damage to untreated wood through their nesting habits.
