Natural Habitat

Diet & Feeding
Keratin-rich materials including wool, fur, feathers, silk, felt, and animal hair. They may also consume synthetic fabrics blended with natural fibers.
Behavior Patterns
The larva spins a protective silken case around itself, incorporating fibers from its food source. It carries this case as it moves and feeds. They prefer dark, undisturbed areas and undergo a complete metamorphosis with 5-45 larval molts depending on conditions.
Risks & Benefits
Significant household pest that causes physical damage to clothing, upholstery, rugs, and heirlooms. They provide no direct benefit to humans and can be difficult to eradicate once established.
