Natural Habitat
Typically found in cracks and crevices of human dwellings, especially in mattresses, bed frames, and upholstered furniture.
Diet & Feeding
Obligate hematophages, meaning they feed exclusively on the blood of warm-blooded animals, primarily humans.
Behavior Patterns
Mainly nocturnal; they hide during the day and emerge at night to feed. They undergo incomplete metamorphosis with five nymphal stages, each requiring a blood meal to molt.
Risks & Benefits
They pose significant risks as a household pest, causing itchy bites, allergic reactions, and psychological distress. While not known to transmit diseases, they are difficult and expensive to eradicate. They offer no known benefits to the ecosystem in human environments.
