Booklouse

Damp, warm areas with high humidity such as basements, bathrooms, or near leaky pipes; often found in starch-heavy environments like books, wallpaper, or dry food pantries.

Mainly feeds on microscopic fungi, mold, mildew, and starch-based materials like book binding glue or cereal grain dust.

Active year-round in indoor environments; they do not fly and are often nocturnal. They reproduce rapidly in humid conditions and can survive on very small amounts of organic material.

Harmless to humans and pets as they do not bite or transmit disease; however, large infestations can contaminate stored food products and damage old book bindings or paper goods.
