Natural Habitat
Human dwellings, primarily in bedrooms, tucked into mattresses, bed frames, cracks, crevices, and baseboards.
Diet & Feeding
Obligate hematophages (blood-feeders), primarily feeding on human blood, usually at night.
Behavior Patterns
Nocturnal and elusive; they hide during the day and are attracted to the CO2 and body heat of sleeping hosts. They undergo incomplete metamorphosis (egg, nymph, adult).
Risks & Benefits
Risks: Bites cause itchy red welts, allergic reactions, and significant psychological distress/insomnia. Benefits: None; they are considered a major household pest.
