Natural Habitat

Human dwellings, primarily found in bed frames, mattresses, crevices of furniture, and behind baseboards.

Diet & Feeding

Obligate hematophagous (blood-feeders), primarily targeting humans but will occasionally feed on other warm-blooded animals.

Behavior Patterns

Nocturnal and elusive; they hide during the day and emerge at night to feed. They undergo incomplete metamorphosis with five nymphal stages, requiring a blood meal to molt at each stage.

Risks & Benefits

Risks include skin irritation, allergic reactions to bites, and psychological distress. While not known to transmit diseases, they are a significant domestic pest. There are no ecological benefits to humans.
