Natural Habitat

Found in cracks and crevices in indoor environments, specifically near sleeping areas such as beds, mattresses, and bed frames.

Diet & Feeding

Obligate blood-feeders that primarily consume human blood, but will also feed on other warm-blooded animals.

Behavior Patterns

Mainly nocturnal; they hide during the day and emerge at night to feed. They go through five nymphal stages, requiring a blood meal to molt between each stage.

Risks & Benefits

A significant public health pest that causes itchy bites, sleep deprivation, and psychological distress. While not known to transmit diseases to humans, they cause significant economic impact and infestations are difficult to eradicate.
