Natural Habitat
Typically found in damp, decaying wood, floor joists, or wooden structures with high moisture levels.
Diet & Feeding
Larvae tunnel through and feed on damp or decaying wood fibers; adults may feed on fungi or wood as well.
Behavior Patterns
They are often nocturnal and attracted to light. Their presence indoors usually indicates a moisture problem or wood rot in the building's infrastructure.
Risks & Benefits
They do not bite humans or pets. However, they are considered pests because they can cause structural damage to water-damaged or decaying wood. Benefit to the ecosystem includes helping decompose fallen trees and recycled nutrients.
