- Order: Hemiptera, Family: Aphididae
- Size
- 2 to 4 mm in length
Natural Habitat
Found on the leaves, branches, twigs, and roots of host trees and shrubs, particularly fruit and ornamental trees.
Diet & Feeding
Herbivorous; they use piercing-sucking mouthparts to feed on plant sap (phloem).
Behavior Patterns
They secrete white, waxy strands that resemble cotton or wool for protection. Some species alternate between different host plants during their life cycle.
Risks & Benefits
Typically more of an aesthetic nuisance than a threat; however, heavy infestations can cause curling leaves, branch dieback, or root galls. They produce sticky honeydew which can lead to sooty mold growth.
