Natural Habitat

Indoor environments, specifically in close proximity to human sleeping areas such as mattress seams, bed frames, and furniture crevices.

Diet & Feeding

Obligate hematophages (blood-feeders), primarily feeding on human blood during the night.

Behavior Patterns

Nocturnal and elusive; they hide in dark crevices during the day and are attracted to the carbon dioxide and warmth emitted by hosts at night. They undergo five nymphal stages, requiring a blood meal to molt into the next stage.

Risks & Benefits

Risks include itchy allergic reactions to bites, sleep deprivation, and psychological distress. While not known to transmit diseases to humans, heavy infestations can cause secondary skin infections from scratching.
