Carpet Beetle Larva
Scientific Name: Anthrenus verbasci
Order & Family: Order: Coleoptera; Family: Dermestidae
Size: 1 mm to 4 mm (short, oval, and hairy appearance)

Natural Habitat
Found indoors in carpets, closets, behind baseboards, and in stored textile items; also found outdoors in bird nests or on flowers.
Diet & Feeding
Larvae scavenge on animal-based materials like wool, silk, feathers, fur, pet hair, and dead insects; adults feed on pollen and nectar.
Behavior Patterns
Larvae are slow-moving and avoid light (negatively phototactic). They undergo several molts, leaving behind thin, translucent shed skins. Infestations often go unnoticed until damage is seen on fabrics.
Risks & Benefits
Risks: Larvae can cause significant damage to furniture, clothing, and textiles. Their bristly hairs can cause skin irritation or allergic reactions (carpet beetle dermatitis) in sensitive individuals. Benefits: In the wild, they act as important scavengers of hair, feathers, and organic debris.
