Bed bug
Scientific Name: Cimex lectularius
Order & Family: Hemiptera (true bugs), Cimicidae
Size: 4-5 mm (adults), similar to an apple seed.

Natural Habitat
Primarily found in human dwellings, especially in mattresses, bed frames, furniture, and cracks/crevices near sleeping areas. They are usually found in close proximity to their human hosts.
Diet & Feeding
Exclusively feed on the blood of warm-blooded animals, primarily humans. Nymphs and adults require blood meals to grow and reproduce.
Behavior Patterns
Nocturnal feeders, emerging at night to bite sleeping hosts. They are attracted to carbon dioxide and body heat. They tend to live in aggregations in sheltered locations and can survive for several months without a blood meal.
Risks & Benefits
Potential risks include itchy red welts from bites, allergic reactions, and secondary skin infections from scratching. They are not known to transmit diseases to humans. There are no known benefits to humans or the ecosystem.
