Natural Habitat

Human dwellings, specifically tucked into mattress seams, bed frames, headboards, and cracks or crevices near sleeping areas.

Diet & Feeding

Obligate hematophagy (feeds exclusively on the blood of warm-blooded animals, primarily humans).

Behavior Patterns

Nocturnal and elusive; they emerge from hiding at night to feed. After a blood meal, they return to harborages to digest and mate. They undergo incomplete metamorphosis (egg, nymph, adult).

Risks & Benefits

Risks include itchy welts, allergic reactions, and significant psychological distress or insomnia. While not known to transmit diseases, they are a major nuisance pest. There are no known benefits to the ecosystem or humans.
