Mold Mite (Grain Mite)

Damp environments with food high in protein or fat, such as food pantries, grains, cheese, and moldy organic matter.

Fungi, mold spores, and organic food debris high in fat and protein.

They reproduce rapidly in humid conditions. They are often noticed as a 'moving dust' on surfaces when populations explode.

They do not bite humans or pets, but can cause 'grocer's itch' (dermatitis) and respiratory allergies in sensitive individuals. They contaminate food supplies.
