Size: 1 to 7 millimeters (about the size of an apple seed when fully grown)

Natural Habitat
Indoor environments, specifically in close proximity to human sleeping areas such as mattresses, bed frames, cracks, and crevices.
Diet & Feeding
Obligate hematophages (blood-feeders), primarily feeding on human blood, but also sometimes on other warm-blooded animals.
Behavior Patterns
Nocturnal and elusive; they hide during the day and emerge at night to feed. They go through five nymphal stages before reaching adulthood and require a blood meal to molt at each stage.
Risks & Benefits
Risks include itchy skin welts, allergic reactions, psychological distress, and secondary infections from scratching. They are not known to transmit diseases to humans but are considered a major public health pest.
