Case-bearing Clothes Moth
Scientific Name: Tinea pellionella
Order & Family: Lepidoptera (moths and butterflies), Tineidae (fungus moths and clothes moths)
Size: Larvae grow up to 10-12 mm (0.4-0.5 inches) in length. Adults have a wingspan of about 9-16 mm (0.35-0.6 inches).

Natural Habitat
Indoors, commonly found in closets, attics, storage areas, and less-frequented rooms where natural fiber materials like wool clothing, carpets, tapestries, and upholstered furniture are stored. They thrive in dark, humid, and undisturbed conditions.
Diet & Feeding
Larvae feed primarily on natural fibers, including wool, silk, animal bristles (e.g., in brushes), fur, feathers, and lint. They can also damage synthetic blends if natural fibers are present.
Behavior Patterns
Case-bearing clothes moth larvae build and carry a silk case, often covered with debris, which they enlarge as they grow. They are slow-moving and prefer dark, undisturbed areas. Adults are poor fliers and tend to run rather than fly when disturbed.
Risks & Benefits
Potential risks include significant damage to natural fiber textiles, clothing, carpets, and other household items containing wool, silk, fur, or feathers. There are no known benefits.
