Two-spotted carpet beetle

Natural Habitat

Indoors they are found in kitchens, pantries, and wardrobes where food or animal-based textiles are present; outdoors they are found in nests of birds, mammals, and on flowers.

Diet & Feeding

Larvae feed on dried protein materials including fur, feathers, hair, wool, silk, and stored grain products. Adults primarily feed on flower pollen and nectar.

Behavior Patterns

They undergo complete metamorphosis (egg, larva, pupa, adult). The larval stage is the longest and most destructive, seeking out dark, undisturbed areas to feed. Adults are attracted to light and are often seen near windows.

Risks & Benefits

They are a significant household pest, causing damage to clothing, upholstery, and carpets. Their larval hairs can cause allergic skin reactions or respiratory irritation in sensitive individuals. They do not bite or transmit diseases.
