Carpet Beetle Larva
Scientific Name: Dermestes lardarius (or similar Dermestidae species)
Order & Family: Coleoptera, Dermestidae
Size: Typically '2mm' to '5mm' in length

Natural Habitat
Indoors, in areas with lint, dust, pet hair, wool, silk, fur, feathers, and other animal-derived products. Also found in natural settings feeding on carrion or dried plant material.
Diet & Feeding
Keratin-rich materials such as wool, fur, feathers, dried animal products, stored foods, lint, and dust. They are scavengers.
Behavior Patterns
Larvae are typically slow-moving and avoid light. They undergo several instars, molting as they grow. The larval stage is the most destructive, while adult beetles feed on pollen and nectar outdoors.
Risks & Benefits
Potential risks include damage to textiles, carpets, clothing, furs, and other household items containing keratin. They can also contaminate stored food products. Generally not harmful to humans; however, some individuals may experience skin irritation from their bristly hairs. They play a role in decomposition in natural environments.
