Natural Habitat
Found worldwide in human dwellings, typically nesting in mattress seams, bed frames, cracks, crevices, and behind wallpaper in proximity to hosts.
Diet & Feeding
Obligate hematophages, meaning they feed exclusively on the blood of warm-blooded animals, primarily humans.
Behavior Patterns
Nocturnal parasites that emerge at night to feed. They undergo incomplete metamorphosis (egg, nymph, adult) and can survive for several months without feeding in temperate climates.
Risks & Benefits
Risks include itchy allergic reactions to bites, sleep deprivation, and psychological stress; they are not known to transmit diseases to humans. There are no known benefits to the ecosystem or humans.
