Natural Habitat

Often found indoors in homes (attics, basements, dusty corners) and outdoors in hollow trees or wood piles where pest insects are present.

Diet & Feeding

Carnivorous predator of other arthropods; feeds on bed bugs, carpet beetles, silverfish, and earwigs.

Behavior Patterns

The nymphs (immature stage shown in image) have a sticky body surface that accumulates dust, lint, and sand, effectively camouflaging them as balls of dust to ambush prey. They are nocturnal hunters.

Risks & Benefits

Generally beneficial as they eat household pests like bed bugs and termites. However, they can inflict a painful, burning bite if handled or threatened, though they do not transmit diseases.
