Bed Bug
Scientific Name: Cimex lectularius
Order & Family: Hemiptera (Order), Cimicidae (Family)
Size: Adults are approximately 4-5 mm long (about the size of an apple seed); nymphs are smaller, ranging from 1 mm to 4.5 mm.

Natural Habitat
Typically found in cracks and crevices near sleeping areas, including mattresses, box springs, headboards, and upholstered furniture. They prefer hidden, dark locations close to human hosts.
Diet & Feeding
Hematophagous (feed exclusively on blood), primarily preferring human blood, although they will feed on other warm-blooded animals if necessary.
Behavior Patterns
Nocturnal and elusive, they emerge at night to feed on sleeping hosts. They are known for hitchhiking on luggage, clothing, and furniture to spread to new locations. They can survive several months without feeding.
Risks & Benefits
Risks include itchy bites, allergic skin reactions, sleeplessness, and significant psychological stress. While they are not known to transmit diseases directly to humans, infestations can be severe and difficult to eradicate. There are no significant ecological benefits.
