Natural Habitat

Diet & Feeding
Starchy substances and polysaccharides including paper, glue, book bindings, photos, sugar, hair, dandruff, and organic fabrics like cotton or linen.
Behavior Patterns
Nocturnal and moves quickly with a wiggling, fish-like motion. They avoid light and are known for their ability to survive distinct periods (weeks to months) without food. They molt continuously throughout their adult life.
Risks & Benefits
Risks: Considered a household pest because they damage property (books, documents, clothing, wallpaper) by feeding on them. They can also contaminate food and trigger allergies in some people. Benefits: They do not bite humans or transmit diseases, and they act as scavengers cleaning up organic dust and dead insects.
