Behavior Patterns

Larvae are largely sedentary and photophobic, preferring dark, secluded areas. They undergo a lengthy larval stage lasting several months to a year before pupating into adults.

Risks & Benefits

Larvae can cause structural damage to household fabrics and clothing. Their bristly hairs can cause 'carpet beetle dermatitis' or allergic reactions in sensitive individuals. They do not bite humans.
