Natural Habitat
Indoor environments, particularly in carpets, upholstery, closets, and air ducts where organic debris accumulates.
Diet & Feeding
Scavengers that feed on natural fibers like wool, silk, fur, feathers, and lint, as well as dead insects and dried food.
Behavior Patterns
Larvae are largely sedentary and photophobic, preferring dark, secluded areas. They undergo a lengthy larval stage lasting several months to a year before pupating into adults.
Risks & Benefits
Larvae can cause structural damage to household fabrics and clothing. Their bristly hairs can cause 'carpet beetle dermatitis' or allergic reactions in sensitive individuals. They do not bite humans.
