Natural Habitat
Found primarily in the Southwestern United States and Northern Mexico, specifically on or near mesquite trees.
Diet & Feeding
Herbivorous; specifically feeds on the sap of mesquite trees and succulent mesquite pods.
Behavior Patterns
Often found in large aggregations, especially as nymphs; they undergo incomplete metamorphosis and are most active during the summer months.
Risks & Benefits
Generally harmless to humans but can produce a pungent odor from scent glands if disturbed; they are considered a minor pest to mesquite trees but are an important part of the local desert ecosystem.
