Natural Habitat
Found near boxelder trees, as well as maple and ash trees; common in residential areas where they seek warmth.
Diet & Feeding
Mainly sap from the leaves, flowers, and seeds of boxelder trees; occasionally eats other maple and ash tree parts.
Behavior Patterns
They are known for congregating in large numbers on south-facing walls in autumn to find warmth. They overwinter in cracks and crevices of buildings.
Risks & Benefits
They do not bite or sting and are mostly a nuisance pest; they can leave stains on upholstery or curtains with their excrement and emit a foul odor if crushed.
