Predominantly aphids, but also consume scales, thrips, and other soft-bodied insects.

Slug-like movement; they use specialized mouthhooks to seize prey and suck out body fluids. Many species are active during the day.

Highly beneficial to ecosystems and agriculture as a natural pest control agent against aphids; adults are also important pollinators.
