Snow Flea

Leaf litter, soil, and on the surface of snow during winter months in North America and Europe.

Feed on fungal spores, algae, and decaying organic matter in the soil.

They are wingless hexapods that utilize a specialized appendage called a furcula to jump. They are often noticed in late winter when they emerge onto snow to find food or mates.

They are harmless to humans and pets; they do not bite or sting. They benefit the ecosystem by breaking down organic material and contributing to soil health.
