Natural Habitat

Found in bird nests, poultry houses, and indoor environments near window sills or vents where birds nest.

Diet & Feeding

Obligate blood feeders, primarily targeting birds but will bite humans and other mammals if their primary host is gone.

Behavior Patterns

They are highly active, fast-moving, and most active at night. When bird hosts leave a nest, mites migrate into buildings searching for a new blood meal.
