Natural Habitat

Found in fields, gardens, and decaying wood; often attracted to lights and enters homes through open windows or doors.

Diet & Feeding

Adults feed on nectar, pollen, and soft plant tissues; larvae (wireworms) feed on roots, seeds, and decomposing organic matter.

Behavior Patterns

Known for their unique clicking mechanism. When flipped onto their backs, they use a specialized spine on their prosternum to launch themselves into the air with a clicking sound.

Risks & Benefits

Harmless to humans as they do not bite or sting. In their larval stage (wireworms), they can be agricultural pests by damaging crop roots, but adults are primarily a nuisance when found indoors.
