Natural Habitat
Found in fields, gardens, and decaying wood; often attracted to lights and enters homes through open windows or doors.
Diet & Feeding
Adults feed on nectar, pollen, and soft plant tissues; larvae (wireworms) feed on roots, seeds, and decomposing organic matter.
Behavior Patterns
Known for their unique clicking mechanism. When flipped onto their backs, they use a specialized spine on their prosternum to launch themselves into the air with a clicking sound.
Risks & Benefits
Harmless to humans as they do not bite or sting. In their larval stage (wireworms), they can be agricultural pests by damaging crop roots, but adults are primarily a nuisance when found indoors.
