Natural Habitat

Inhabits human dwellings, particularly in cracks and crevices in and around sleeping areas like mattresses, bed frames, and headboards.

Diet & Feeding

Obligate hematophagous (blood-feeders), primarily feeding on human blood but will also feed on other warm-blooded animals.

Behavior Patterns

Nocturnal insects that hide during the day and emerge at night to feed. They undergo incomplete metamorphosis with five nymphal stages that each require a blood meal to molt.

Risks & Benefits

Risks include itchy allergic reactions to bites, sleep deprivation, and psychological distress. While they do not transmit diseases, heavy infestations can occasionally cause anemia. They provide no known ecosystem benefits in human environments.
