Natural Habitat
Typically found in human dwellings, residing in cracks and crevices, mattresses, bed frames, and upholstered furniture.
Diet & Feeding
Obligate hematophages; they feed exclusively on the blood of warm-blooded animals, primarily humans.
Behavior Patterns
They are nocturnal, emerging from hiding places at night to feed. They undergo incomplete metamorphosis (egg, nymph, adult) and require a blood meal to progress to each stage.
Risks & Benefits
Risks include itchy skin welts, allergic reactions, and psychological distress/insomnia. While they do not transmit pathogens, they are a significant sanitary pest that is difficult to eradicate. There are no known benefits to the ecosystem.
