Silverfish

Damp, dark, and cool areas with high humidity such as basements, bathrooms, kitchens, and attics.

Strictly herbivorous/detritivores; they consume matter containing polysaccharides, such as starches and dextrin in adhesives (book bindings, wallpaper paste), paper, clothing (cotton, silk, linen), and some synthetic fibers.

Nocturnal and highly agile; they avoid light and are capable of running very quickly. They undergo a simple metamorphosis (egg, nymph, adult) and can live for several years, molting throughout their entire lives.

They do not bite humans or transmit diseases, but they are considered household pests because they can damage books, photographs, and textiles. In the ecosystem, they serve as decomposers by breaking down organic matter.
