Bed Bug
Scientific Name: Cimex lectularius
Order & Family: Hemiptera: Cimicidae
Size: Adults are approximately 4-5 mm (about 3/16 inch) in length. Nymphs range from 1 mm to 4 mm.

Natural Habitat
Typically found in human dwellings, particularly in bedrooms. They hide in cracks and crevices of mattresses, box springs, bed frames, furniture, and behind wallpaper or baseboards.
Diet & Feeding
Strictly hematophagous, meaning they feed exclusively on the blood of warm-blooded animals, with humans being the preferred host.
Behavior Patterns
They are nocturnal and cryptic, emerging at night to feed on sleeping hosts. They are attracted to warmth and carbon dioxide. After feeding, they retreat to hidden aggregations.
Risks & Benefits
Risks: Their bites cause itchy, red welts and can lead to secondary skin infections, allergic reactions, anxiety, and insomnia. They are not known to transmit disease but are significant nuisance pests. Benefits: None known.
