Common Silverfish

Dark, humid environments such as basements, bathrooms, kitchens, and attics.

General scavengers focusing on carbohydrates/starches and protein, including book bindings, glue, paper, photos, and some synthetic fabrics.

Nocturnal and move with a characteristic fish-like swimming motion. They are long-lived (up to 8 years) and can survive for months without food.

They are nuisance pests that can damage paper products and textiles but do not transmit diseases to humans.
