Size: 4-5 mm (adults), about the size of an apple seed.

Natural Habitat

Dwellings, especially bedrooms, found in mattresses, bed frames, cracks in walls, furniture, and luggage.

Diet & Feeding

Exclusively blood of warm-blooded animals, primarily humans. They feed at night while hosts are sleeping.

Behavior Patterns

Nocturnal, hiding in cracks and crevices during the day. They are attracted to carbon dioxide and warmth. Females lay 1-5 eggs per day, up to 200-500 in their lifetime. Life cycle from egg to adult can take 1-4 months, depending on conditions and food availability.

Risks & Benefits

Potential risks include itchy bites (which can lead to secondary skin infections), allergic reactions, and significant psychological distress for infestations. They are not known to transmit diseases to humans. There are no known benefits.
