Scavengers that feed on natural fibers and animal products including wool, silk, fur, feathers, hair, and dead insects.

Significant risk as a domestic pest, causing damage to clothing, blankets, and rugs. Their bristly hairs can cause 'carpet beetle dermatitis' (skin irritation or allergic reactions) in some people. No significant benefits in a domestic context.
