Obligate hematophages; they feed exclusively on the blood of warm-blooded animals, primarily humans.
Behavior Patterns
Nocturnal parasites that emerge at night to feed. They go through five nymphal stages, requiring a blood meal between each molt. They are known for hitchhiking on luggage or clothing to spread to new locations.
Risks & Benefits
Risks include itchy allergic reactions to bites, sleep deprivation, and psychological distress. While not known to transmit diseases, they are a significant domestic pest. There are no ecological benefits to humans.
