Natural Habitat

Diet & Feeding

Herbivorous; they primarily feed on the leaves of deciduous trees such as oak, hazel, and walnut.

Behavior Patterns

Master of camouflage, it mimics twigs to avoid predators. They are primarily nocturnal and have a slow, swaying movement. They undergo incomplete metamorphosis (egg, nymph, adult).

Risks & Benefits

Generally harmless to humans and have no sting or bite. In high populations, they can occasionally defoliate small areas of trees, but they are beneficial to the ecosystem as a food source for birds and other predators.
