Natural Habitat

Originally from East Asia; now widespread in North America and Europe. Often found in orchards, gardens, and overwintering inside homes and buildings.

Diet & Feeding

Polyphagous herbivores; they feed on over 100 plant species including fruit trees, vegetables, and ornamental plants by piercing the tissue and sucking out juices.

Behavior Patterns

They are known for seeking shelter indoors during autumn to overwinter (diapause). When threatened or crushed, they release a pungent, cilantro-like odor from scent glands.

Risks & Benefits

Risks: Major agricultural pest causing significant damage to fruit and vegetable crops. Nuisance pest in homes due to overwintering aggregations. They do not bite or sting humans. Benefits: Negligible; primarily considered an invasive pest.
