Springtail (Collembola swarm)

Damp soil, leaf litter, decaying organic matter, flower pots, and occasionally swimming pool surfaces or moist indoor areas.

Decomposers that feed on fungi, pollen, algae, bacteria, and decaying plant matter.

Known for their ability to jump using a specialized tail-like appendage called a furcula. They often form large swarms in moist conditions or during thaw periods (sometimes called 'snow fleas').

Harmless to humans, pets, and structures. They do not bite or sting. Highly beneficial to ecosystems as key decomposers that enrich soil quality.
